Improving basalt wettability to de-risk CO2 geo-storage in basaltic formations

نویسندگان

چکیده

CO2 geo-storage in basaltic formations has recently been identi?ed as a viable option to rapidly dispose large quantities of , hence mitigating anthropogenic emissions. However, it shown that basalt is weakly water-wet or intermediate-wet at typical storage conditions, which reduces capillary trapping capacities and increases lateral vertical spreading the plume; these effects increase project risk. We thus propose here prime surfaces with anionic surfactant (here we used sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate), demonstrate such priming highly ef?cient, renders completely even high pressures minute sulfonate concentrations. Such wettability alteration can therefore signi?cantly de-risk projects. This work aids improvement supports implementation industrial-scale geo-sequestration climate change mitigation. An integrative approach to robust design and probabilistic risk assessment for CO2 storage in geological formations

CO2 storage in geological formations is currently being discussed intensively as a technology with a high potential for mitigating CO2 emissions. However, any large-scale application requires a thorough analysis of the potential risks. Current numerical simulation models are too expensive for probabilistic risk analysis or stochastic approaches based on a brute-force approach of repeated simula...

Spatial stochastic modeling of sedimentary formations to assess CO2 storage potential.

Carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) is a technology that provides a near-term solution to reduce anthropogenic CO2 emissions to the atmosphere and reduce our impact on the climate system. Assessments of carbon sequestration resources that have been made for North America using existing methodologies likely underestimate uncertainty and variability in the reservoir parameters. This paper desc...

Surviving Congestion in Geo-Distributed Storage Systems

We present Vivace, a key-value storage system for web applications that span many geographicallydistributed sites. Vivace provides strong consistency and replicates data across sites for access locality and disaster tolerance. Vivace is designed to cope well with network congestion across sites, which occurs because the bandwidth across sites is smaller than within sites. To deal with congestio...
